STAFF ATTORNEY POSITION - LEGAL SERVICES CENTER FOR IMMIGRANTS

POSITION:The Legal Services Center for Immigrants, one of Chicago's oldest free legal services provider to impoverished immigrants in Illinois, has a full-time position opening for a Staff Attorney. The Center provides legal assistance and representation to Illinois' immigrants, specializing in the areas of removal defense, VAWA and U visa applications, the immigration consequences of criminal convictions, and federal litigation. The Staff Attorney will work with the current staff of four attorneys, one Accredited Representative, and one paralegal intern, and will be involved in all of these areas of work. The Center seeks a candidate who is collegial, creative in his or her approach to immigration law, and committed to the representation of our client population.

REQUIREMENTS: J.D., with admission to Illinois bar preferred but not required. The candidate should have 2-3 years experience in the area of immigration law, including representation in removal proceedings. Experience with detained immigrants and a good knowledge of a range of immigration remedies, including asylum, withholding and Convention Against Torture relief, cancellation of removal, the immigration consequences of criminal convictions, and VAWA/U visa applications is strongly preferred. Excellent organizational skills required. Fluency in Spanish required: additional language capacities a plus.

SALARY: Salary dependant on experience; excellent fringe benefits.
