Regional Director - AG - Rockford

Title: Regional Director

            The Illinois Attorney General's Office is seeking an experienced attorney with sound judgment and excellent litigation, research, and writing skills to serve as director of the regional office.

Location: Northern Illinois Regional Office- 200 South Wyman Street, Suite 307, Rockford, IL 61101

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform advanced legal work in the Attorney General=s Office and related work as required.  Represent the Attorney General in legal proceedings as assigned.  Represent the Attorney General in court cases.  The work is performed under the professional direction of the Regional Counsel, Division and Bureau Chiefs.  Examples of duties and responsibilities include preparing and trying cases in various courts; furnishing information on inquiries and complaints submitted to the Attorney General’s Office; taking statements from witnesses and participating in various hearings when requested by State officials; representing the Attorney General in various outreach activities in the region; and generally supervising other employees in the regional office.
                       
Required Education and Experience:

      Knowledge of judicial procedures and rules of evidence; knowledge of State, federal and general municipal laws including accepted legal or court interpretations; knowledge of the organization, functions and legal limitations on the authority of the various State departments; knowledge of the principles of civil law, including the independent handling of trial work.  Strong candidates will be skilled in analyzing, appraising, and organizing facts, evidence, and precedent and in presenting such materials effectively, orally, and in writing.  Attorney candidates must be licensed by the State of Illinois at the time of application.  Experienced attorneys are strongly encouraged to apply.  The ideal candidate will have five or more years of litigation experience.  Newly licensed attorneys are not eligible. 

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

AG Office - Chicago - Criminal Appeals

The Criminal Appeals Division of the Office of the Illinois Attorney General is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Attorney General. Attorneys are responsible for their own cases, which include predominantly responses to petitions for writ of habeas corpus in the United States District Courts. Additionally, attorneys brief and argue habeas corpus appeals before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and criminal appeals in the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts. Candidates must be licensed in Illinois.  Newly licensed attorneys will not be considered.  Instead, the ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience as a judicial clerk, appellate court research staff member or appellate litigation associate with an emphasis or background in federal habeas corpus or state criminal appeals.  Candidates should enjoy research and writing.

 

 Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, the salary range is $50,500 to $67,500.  Federal habeas experience preferred.
