Public Interest Law

The Tobacco Control Legal Consortium has an immediate opening for a full-time staff attorney. The position is located at the Tobacco Law Center, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit corporation affiliated with the William Mitchell College of Law, a century-old independent non-profit law school in
Saint Paul, Minnesota.

The Tobacco Control Legal Consortium is a national network of legal resource centers dedicated to advancing tobacco policy change in the United States by giving advocates better access to legal expertise. The Consortium serves as a legal resource for the national tobacco control community and an academic think tank on tobacco law. The staff attorney responsibilities may include helping with legislative drafting; legal research, analysis and strategy; training and presentations; reparation of friend-of-the-court legal briefs; policy development; and litigation support.

Qualifications include admission to the bar and 5 years of experience in the practice of law. Preference will be given to attorneys with experience in municipal, public health or administrative law. Excellent legal research, writing and public speaking skills are required. Candidates with experience drafting, implementing, or enforcing local or state laws are preferred. Some travel is required. This is a new, grant-funded position and is dependent on the continued availability of funding.
